Building on a Legacy

In 1933 Paul Baker and his son, Roy, constructed the classic stucco Shell Gas station.  During their years of operation the business expanded to include auto glass replacement, mechanical repairs, salvaged parts and wrecker service. Bill partnered with his father, Roy, in 1961.  He brought with him flat glass experience and the slogan “If It’s Glass, We Do It!” was born.  An additional building was constructed at the rear of the property shortly thereafter.

Marcia and Dave Miller, Bill’s daughter and son-in-law, took over Baker Glass after Bill’s retirement in 1989.  In 2005, the property from 1936 underwent an extensive facelift.  The refurbished 1933 stucco building now serves as showroom/office while an addition to the rear building doubled shop and storage square footage.

The Fort Atkinson Fire Department

Received Gold Award from Associated Builders and Contractors

The city of Fort Atkinson’s new fire station project was a two story addition, demo and remodel. Phasing the design and construction allowed the 24/7 fire department to be fully functional during the entire 16-month schedule, avoiding relocation costs or new land purchase. Keller, Inc. conducted an extensive needs assessment revealing a larger-than-expected list to bring the current facility up to date and adequately provide space for an evolving staff and future growth. The city hoped the new facility would blend well with the existing police facility while still creating its own identity and minimizing maintenance. Interior and exterior materials were selected to accomplish this as well as provide durability, longevity and a contemporary look.
